Historically apeaking, Prato found itself situated on one of the
most important trade routes crossing the Alps, while also serving as a natural haven in the mountains.
The archaeological excavations found in the area seem to confirm this, as do the places of worship such as the Romanesque churches of St. John or St. George in Agumes/Agums, the old
monasteries and ancient forts, such as the Lichtenberg Castle. Even the old hospices and taverns catering to travellers and pilgrims, bear witness to this history.
In the modern
aquaprad Visitors Center in the
Stelvio National Park, the permanent exhibition explains the importance of water in these mountains, to visitors
